The product designers at Scotland-based Endura have been hard at work following the release of the initial Road and Mountain offerings two years ago, producing a collection of urban-focused helmets. Available in two flavors, the Xtract and the Lumite helmets feature the same size-adjustment capability and anti-bacterial fast-wicking padding of Endura’s existing collections but with some visibility-focused features to take a more pro-active approach to safety…

The new Luminite and Xtract helmets are designed for comfort and a wide range of head shapes, featuring an adjustment knob to tweak fit and three settings for vertical adjustment of the helmet with relation to the head. The visor is removable for the urban rider looking for a more aero look, and the inside front of the helmet features a bug net to prevent bees from getting in your bonnet.

Both models in the collection feature a USB rechargeable LED rear light integrated into the helmet shell, with three available flash settings. The light is designed to be simple to use, even with gloved hands, and boasts a 40 hour run time (in “fast flash” mode). If needed, the light unit is removable and replaceable through Endura.

The Luminite, the more aggressively visual of the two models in the collection, will be available in Hi-Viz Yellow, Hi-Viz Green, and Matte Black and features extensive reflective accent panels on all sides of the helmet for the highest of visibility.

Endura_Helmet_XtractThe Xtract, meanwhile, is available in white and red and features no additional reflective panels. The collection is available in sizes S-M, M-L, and L-XL and retails for £39.99.

I like, my only fear is about how visible the light is at various angles. If I tuck my chin down, is the light visible behind me? I’d also want at least 130 degrees, left to right. I wouldn’t mind if they made the LED a strip/stripe down the back…

The issue I have seen with rear mounted helmet lights is people who ride wearing backpacks, like in one of the promotional shots. The backpack typically obscures, if not covers the light outright, making it pointless and a waste of electricity.

This makes much more sense than trying to put a light on a jacket.

Also, why the hell isn’t every helmet company putting reflective accents on their helmets. This just makes sense to do. I apply decal kits to all of my new helmets (preferrably color matched so they don’t stand out much in the day, only when needed at night).
