When most people think Haro, they think BMX. While there were still plenty of BMX bikes on hand at the trade shows, what was most surprising were their new mountain bikes. Over the years, Haro has strayed from their BMX roots to test out the mountain bike waters to varied success. Now, Haro is charging back in with the Shift, Shift Plus, and Subvert plus size mountain bikes to add to the collection.

Designed to offer high levels of performance at prices that are within reach of the average consumer. The Shift will be offered in standard 27.5″ wheels, but more surprising is Haro beating many companies to the punch on a 27+ full suspension bike…

At the most basic level, the Shift line is split into two groups. The R Series uses a four bar suspension with the rear pivot below the axle similar to Horst Links, while the S Series uses a simpler Single Pivot design. Both frames have what Haro is calling an optimized lower swingarm pivot that rotates on Enduro sealed cartridge bearings for durability.

The Shift Plus uses that suspension design to accommodate 27.5×2.8″/29″ standard tires with 130mm of rear travel. The aluminum frame uses a 12×148 boost rear thru axle, 73mm threaded BB, tapered head tube, and comes with a RockShox Monarch SL Solo Air rear shock, paired with a Reba SL 120mm travel Boost fork up front. As with most 27.5+ bikes, Haro is advertising the fact that a set of standard 29″ wheels and tires with Boost hubs could be swapped out to change the performance characteristics of the bike.

Specifications:

  • 6061-T6 alloy 4-Bar linkage frame, 27.5″ Plus geometry, 130mm rear travel, 12x148mm Boost Thru-Axle dropouts

Or, you can opt for the Shift R in standard 27.5″ wheels. The bike includes many of the same features but with 125mm of travel and non-boost spec. It also includes a 2×10 drivetrain and costs from $1629.99-$2069.99 (R5, R7) compared to the $2609.99 of the Shift Plus.

Rounding out the line is the Shift S3 at $1199.99.

To complement the Shift Plus, Haro is adding the Subvert plus size hard tail. Built around the WTB Bridger 3.0 tires on Scraper rims, the Subvert offers loads of clearance for a true plus size ride. The aluminum frame is Boost specific, uses a tapered head tube, and is built 1x with SRAM GX (HT7) though it does have a front derailleur mount.

The Subvert is offered in the fully rigid HT3 for $1009.99 or the HT5 and HT7 ($1519.99, $1959.99) which both include suspension forks.

nice looking line-up. iirc, haro was well ahead of the curve introducing a steel rigid 27.5 (then known as 650b) in 2009(?). that put them on the mtb map for me.
