MRP SXg chainguide (2)

Sometimes you just need the extra insurance of a chain guide with both upper and lower retention. The narrow-wide chainring hasn’t quite rid the world of the need for chain guides, and that is especially true when it comes to more aggressive riding. Unfortunately, Now, MRP is making the choice to run a dual guide a lot easier with their interesting new SXg. Thanks to the new Whipper snapper lower guide, the chainguide is lighter, more efficient, and simple to install…

The name Whippersnapper stems from the lower guide’s use to prevent the chain whiplash from big hits from derailing the chain. Built into the SX skid plate, the SXg adds full chainring retention to the bash guard. Like the full size HD upper guide, both pieces are built with co-molded TPU to make them as silent as possible for when the chain actually strikes the guides. Each guide also uses their Swingset hardware so both guides swing away from the chainring for easy installation and removal of the chain, ring, or crank. Better still, it can all be done with a 4mm allen wrench.

Offered in a alloy or carbon back plate, weight is said to be 106g (30-34t Carbon ISCG-05) or 149g (34-38t Alloy ISCG-05). The guide is available in ISCG-05 mounting only which will work with 49mm and wider chainlines for alloy and 50mm and wider chainlines for the carbon, and for 30-34t or 34-38t chainrings. Pricing is set at $169.95 or $224.95 with the alloy version available now.

bearCol, I agree its crazy but probably more deserving of its price than a nice chainring

That pricing just begs for the Chinese to copy it and sell it on ebay for $30.
I look forward to that day.

Neat, but far too much money. What exactly justifies such a huge price for something so simple? Wouldn’t work for my stock 28T chainring anyway, although that might get replaced with a 30T.

For all of the naysayers out there, this is a designed and tested in America product that is excellent quality and unique in the market. There are also a few parts to it including comolded plastic bits that are not all that cheap to make.

People looking for a Chinese knockoff are part of the economical problem in North America. These are not easy to design and test nor is it cheap to pay the brainpower required to come up with these ideas.

Excellent work MRP! Looks like a great product.
