These are some sweet looking builds, I’ve been thinking of going that drop bar 29er route too…Monstercross is back! I looked at your build Greg, and do you have any more info on that under the downtube water bottle with the hose? That is a pretty funky setup but seems like it could be a good solution for those wanting to use their extra water capacity but not wanting to handle and drink from the mud/dung spray covered bottle.

I believe the bottle under the down tube is an air horn from Delta Cycles like this:

You can see the horn part on the handlebar.

That is correct, that is a delta air horn, massively loud, perfect for commuting with cars. About some of the other comments, I definitely did not build this bike for any ‘look at me’ comments, but more to get a decent road position and some fat tires + suspension on the miles and miles of gravel/dirt paths that we have, paths that would trash a real road or CX bike in short order …

I don’t know, I’ve tried it and I am of the persuasion that the drop bar on a 29er is of the “It can be done so why not do it” variety, simply to get attention and strike up conversations at coffee shops. But that’s just me.

Ok gotta go, putting on MTB bars on my TT bike, with a 26″ MTB wheel on the back and a 29er with tubulars on the front, dropper post.

Oh, singlespeed, too.

Oh, and with a water bottle cage on the head tube.

Oh, and with panniers filled with Skittles.

Is there something wrong with people spending their own money to make something that they love just because they feel like doing it? Isn’t that why we all go to work?
