We got the chance to review Hiplok, and it was a blast (and quite a fashion statement too). Hiplok released some new locks that are smaller and significantly lighter fittingly named Hiplok Lite.  The original Hiplok weighed in at roughly 1.8kg (~4lb) and the new one drops down to 1kg (~2.2lbs). I tried it on and there’s a significant difference in overall feel. It sits much closer to the body and looks fairly inconspicuous as an accessory.

To cut weight for the Hiplok Lite, they used a smaller chain, so there’s a drop in security rating. Hiplok Lite drops to sold secure bronze opposed to Hiplok’s sold secure silver rating. In short, that means the thieves can cut it if you’re not careful. But as a quick solution for running errands, it’ll most likely do the job fine. Pricing is £44.99. More info and pics after the break…

The original had 3m reflective lettering for the letters. On Hiplok lite, the reflective lettering was dropped in place of a reflective strip on the velcro. It’s smaller all around, including the padlok. But it’ll still accomodate many waist sizes, ranging from 24″ to 44″. Colors are blue, yellow, pink, white, and urban green.

Hiplok hinted at releasing more locks in the future, one that’ll be sold secure gold rating for a mix of super fashion and viable security. Also, Hiplok now sells replacement sheaths for the original. Currently available in only black, the full color selection should be out soon if you feel like customization. Pricing is £14.99 for a replacement sheath and you can grab one here.

Hi All,

After having 3 bikes disappear fronm the streets of London in quick succession, I invested in the original hiplok when it first came out, no problems since having used it on a daily basis, handy to use – especially seeing as I don’t always carry a rucksack – and looks great too. Might get the missus the Lite one as she keeps borrowing mine!
