Tomaselli levers!

You should think about replacing those “original” handlebars so you can keep your original collarbone. Nice ride, though.

I don’t know if it’s cool to brag about “original bars and seat post.” As Frank Lee implied, being the cool “keepin’ it real” guy at the trailhead will only get you hurt.

Cool bike. Personally I would have kept the original cranks and wheels on if possible. Would make a great cruiser/grocery getter. Wow, the length of that wheel base looks looks brutally long. Switch backs would be challenging for a rider new to that bike.

pernicious, your comment is kinda rude.

There is nothing in the quote from Rashid about “keepin’ it real”, and no-one who doesn’t ride with him has any idea of how or what he’s riding.

I think it’s a cool blend of (very) early and current MTB tech, if it’s working for the owner what business is it of ours to criticise?

Sweet ride. I only have those bars left from my ’82 Stumpy. It was traded in for something lighter a few years later. Nothing wrong with a few improved upgrades over time, my original TA cranks got real flexy, occasionally touching the chainstay under pressure……and I was real happy to upgrade the Mafac brakes to the new XT cantilevers when they became available.

@Charlie Best

But he’s the guy you’re gonna have to help when he does down in front of you on the trail after his ancient components crack/break. I think there’s a modicum of responsibility here, whether we realize it or not.

Well I guess there’s a possibility of those parts failing after 30+ years, but the bars are either chromed steel or alloy with walls so thick it might as well be a solid bar, I’d be more concerned about someone riding 10-15 year old super-light alloy or early carbon.

Also (and I am assuming he wrenches on his own bike, so maybe I’m leaping to conclusions here) the owner has figured out how to squeeze a 135mm rear hub into that frame, and run V-brakes with cantilever brake levers, so he’s probably somewhat bike-savvy.

Double thumbs up from this former Telluride resident!

New gear is far more likely to break than the original parts this guy is still sportin. Kudos to those who know and ride the great steeds from the 80’s.
