First Look: Fezzari Kings Peak Prototype Fat Bike

After a two year hiatus, the Fezzari Kings Peak is back, but it’s gotten a little fat in its time off. While Fezzari is starting to make a name for themselves with their consumer direct sales model with a custom touch, their latest model will have fat bike fans looking at another option to fulfill their big-tired needs.

Called the Fezzari Kings Peak fat bike, or Fat Kings Peak if you prefer, the carbon fat bike is still just in prototype guise, but should be available in time for Christmas delivery – with plenty of snow left in the season. Equipped with nearly all of the features you would expect to find in a carbon fat bike currently, the Fat Kings Peak looks to be a relative bargain in typical Fezzari style…

Other than the big wheels and tires, the Fat Kings Peak also gets an upgrade on the frame side to include a full carbon frame and fork. Designed around clearance for 5″ tires the rear axle is not a pretty standard (for 5″/100mm setups) 197×12 thru axle with the front rigid fork opting for a 135x15mm thru axle. Clearly the front spacing won’t be Bluto compatible right out of the box, but we’re checking on whether the hub can be converted with an end cap for 150×15.

The frame on the other hand is Bluto compatible with the RockShox suspension fork an option for complete builds. That means that the frame uses a tapered head tube with an FSA integrated cartridge bearing headset. Non-Bluto equipped bikes will use a FRD (Fezzari Racing Design) full carbon tapered fork with the 135x15mm axle.

To keep the cables out of the way and clean the frame features full internal routing as well as a replaceable derailleur hanger and integrated rack mounts. The frame is listed with a 120mm English threaded BB which if correct would probably mean the ability to run the wider 190mm based cranksets without additional spacers on the spindle. We’re waiting on a reply that will clear up the bottom bracket questions.

UPDATE: The bottom bracket is indeed a 120mm threaded shell. This means that 190mm specific cranks will be required, but the wider shell means more tire clearance and the ability to run the cranks without the spacers normally required to run in a 100mm shell.

Starting at $2399 for a complete Shimano Deore build, 80mm alloy rims, and the carbon fork, Fat Kings Peaks will have a number of build options. Complete bikes can be speced with the RockShox Bluto, as well as Shimano XT and SRAM X01 drive trains and carbon wheels – all with RaceFace Ride, Turbine Cinch, or Next SL cranks. Add in 4.0 or 4.7″ tires along with Fezzari’s 23 point custom setup which includes bar width, stem length, crank length, etc. and you will get your ideal set up right out of the box.

are you kidding me ???? this is Salsa Beargrease, first launched 2yrs ago, I am buying 2015 model of those and carbon body frameset is 1:1 with the bike on the picture.

Most definitely NOT a Beargrease as the Beargrease has a PF BB and has 170mm rear spacing. This IS the Chinese carbon fat bike that anyone can order online.

Some people forget the Northern hemisphere is covered in snow… need a phat bike to ride more safely and have fun while doing it. If it keep bike shops and bike industry growing and people want to ride it (fatbike, unicycle, recumbent, trike, TT…), then it’s good for everyone involved in the bike industry. We need to stop being elitist to bike designs/categories we do not understand.

fat bike marketing is here to stay, next year it will be +27.5″ and +29’er fat bikes requiring new even-wider BB/frame and fork specs.

@Rizza, how is it “fat bike marketing”? Fat bikes serve a definite purpose, especially for those of us that live in places that get significant snowfall for many months out of the year. That’s like saying “full-suspension” marketing.

Props to @AlanM, @Von Kruiser and anyone else who steps back to realize that “one bike does not fit all”. There are all kinds of bikes for all kinds of people and all kinds of rides.

I for one, am please to have all these options. They make my basement quite the place for bike lovers with several that all serve a different purpose for me depending on the season and my mood.
(road race, road endurance, cyclocross, tri bike, mtb full-squish, fat bike, 24″ trials, bmx race, ski bike, unicycle, etc.)

If someone doesn’t like one type or another… fine. But do us all a favor and keep your useless opinion to yourself, because all these different bikes exist for someone who wants or needs them.

this is a factory picture when they had them shoot the bike so they could get interests from you folks ::right here:: thats why the saddle is like that, because at the chinease factory they dont exactly know what is correct for riding, just for building. i’d bet the name is photoshoped on a blank bike.

The miss I see on this is having the 135 in the front. Suspension is here to stay, as is the hub to work with it (unless they build a wider one and new hub width…) so why not make them easily compatible? Felt, of all companies, offers a 150×15 on their Double Double forks.
