Arise Orange 90

SSCXWC14KY may have come and gone, but it’s never too early to start planning for next year. If you’re planning on heading North to Victoria Island, British Columbia (that’s in Canada, eh?), Bombtrack’s newest bike should fit the bill. Built around their newly updated version of their Arise SS CX rear hub, the Arise complete bike also features their own fork with and investment cast crown, Arise drop bars, and versatility to run gears. If you had to.

Details on the Arise complete, plus the new and improved (read much lighter) Arise CX SS hub next…

Based around a simple but quality built 4130 full chromoly frame, the Arise also is equipped with a chromo fork by the same name. Bombtrack points out that the fork isn’t just some off the shelf cross fork, but an in-house design with tapered double butted chromoly blades and an investment cast crown. The reason for pointing this out is that Bombtrack claims the fork was able to pass not only CX strength and fatigue tests, but mountain bike testing as well.

Even though the Arise is first and foremost a singlespeed, Bombtrack wanted the bike to be versatile so the track end dropouts with integrated chain tensioners also include a derailleur hanger. You know, just in case. Otherwise it’s just the classics with a 68mm threaded bottom bracket and 1 1/8″ straight steerer and head tube. Of course as a steel frame and fork, the Arise also includes full rack and fender mounting eyelets.

Available in Metallic Black or Metallic Orange, complete bikes currently are rim brake only but the company does have a disc brake model in the works. Spec includes the company’s own CX aluminum bars with a 12 degree flared drop, Tektro Mini-V rim brakes and RL-520 levers, Kenda 38c CX tires, and numerous Bombtrack Bikes in house components.

When Bombtrack debuted their original Arise SS hub, response was favorable for all but the weight. New for 2015 the hub sees the same female axle treatment as the front hubs and drops a large amount of weight. Official details will be provided once the hub lands in November, but we’re told it weighs slightly more than half of the originals 629g weight (with all bolts, cog, spacer kit, and lock ring).

Spaced at 130mm the hubs should make some excellent equipment options for singlespeed CX bikes, which is what they were designed to be. A shorted freehub body simplified chainline adjustments and enables quick gear changes, while the bolt on axles should still be plenty stout for road and CX use.

Arise complete builds will be available soon in three sizes, S, M, and L or roughly a 51, 54, and 57 cm frame and with an estimated weight of 23.1 lbs (10.5kg). Price is TBD.

  1. The Provincial tree is Thuja plicata, the Western redcedar. Victoria is also the capitol of BC. All of which is way more interesting than this company.
