Kona Issues Recall of 2014 WO Fat Bike

If you own a 2014 Kona Wo fat bike, the company is reporting that you should stop riding it immediately. The recall is due to the potential for the fork to break where the steerer tube and fork crown meet which could obviously cause a crash. There has only been a single incidence of failure without injury at this point, but that is enough for Kona to issue a recall which will affect around 531 bikes equipped with the Kona Fat Project Two Disc Fork.

Wo owner should stop riding the bikes and contact their local Kona dealer for instructions on obtaining a new fork.

big fan of kona, but not their fatbike. that thing just doesn’t do it for me. I wonder if the number 531 is all that they’ve sold?

I like Kona too (ride one!) and think this thing is an abomination. So ugly!

For what it’s worth, my understanding is that Kona isn’t a huge fan of this bike either. Poor choice of tire and bar spec, and the person who developed it did not participate in developing the 2015 model, which is supposed to be a much better bike.
Still, I’ve played around on a 2014 Wo with Surly tires and flat bars, and it’s pretty good fun in the snow.

Yep, the ’15 is a much better bike and is in line with current fat bike standards. The ’14s were too little too late and are still sitting on dealer floors so this isn’t too terrible. The ’15s have a different fork with a beefier crown design so they shouldn’t be weaksauce like the ’14s were.
