If you didn’t already know, the Post Office jumps are no more. The iconic dirt jumps located in Aptos, California have been featured in countless video parts and played host to sessions of the biggest names in freeride. Under constant threat of being torn down for the past few years, the sun has finally set on the Post Office Jumps. Hopefully they will be relocated and rebuilt, but before they were torn down riders including Jeff Herbertson got in one last session…

“Post Office has been a very special place to a lot of people. In 2008 I visited Aptos, and rode Post Office for the first time. I was very timid, sketchy, and amazed. Within a year, I had packed up my truck and moved to Santa Cruz, where I’ve lived on and off since. I can confidently say that most of my bike control was learned in those few acres. I’ve met lifelong friends and picked up most of my digging techniques from watching the loc boys throw the best dirt that jumps have ever been made of. I’ve broken bones, bikes, and bread there. Those jumps will always have a very special spot in my memory.” – Jeff Herbertson

There might not be a better tribute to the Post Office Jumps than the video that Alex Reveles, James Hall, and Kyle Jameson put together. Sad to see them go, but we feel pretty lucky to have experienced them in person after Sea Otter last year!

“Post Office was where we all met our best friends, created careers and influenced the youth of today. We had as much fun as we could riding and digging. I would like to thank everyone that came out the last week and showed their support and love for dirt jumping. The spirit of Post lives on and will never die.” – Alex Reveles

The irony will now be when Aptos residents start complaining that “those darned pesky kids” are just loitering and up to no good. “Why don’t they go find something to do instead of hanging out and looking at their phones? Go ride a bike or something. Wait, what, oh, they closed the jumps? No wonder graffiti and loitering have increased in our town.”

Reap what you sow, old curmudgeons.
