Photo submitted by Dean Holt, “I came across this whimsical surprise today during a ride near Versailles, Kentucky. It’s beautiful horse farm country, and this scene is directly across the road from Ashford Stud, the home of last year’s Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup winner American Pharoah (they misspelled the name, and they stuck with it). American Pharoah is standing at stud there, so all the better for a roadside valentine.
One simple and well-placed cut of a chainsaw brought the tree’s heart into the open, and somebody took it from there and gave it a bright red flourish.”
