You could argue whether hitch or roof top racks are the ultimate in bicycle transportation, though sometimes simplicity is best. If you’re looking for a way to travel with your bike without installing a hitch or figuring out a roof top set up, it’s hard to beat the simple trunk rack.

Other brands have offered their own version of this modest rack style for years, but now Kuat is getting in on the action as well. Called the Highline, their first go at a strap rack takes aim at the lightweight segment of the market with a complete rack that weighs in at just 13lbs.

The aluminum frame is built with three rotating members that are each secured or released with a high quality latches that offers a solid click when properly engaged.

The three straps per side which hold the rack to the vehicle feature rubberized clips and ratchet down to keep things tight. As for the bikes, each 2 or 3 bike rack features an anti-sway cradle for the seat tube and two straps for the top tube with a soft cradle for the bike to rest on.

Available in the Spring, the Highline will sell for $219 for the two bike, or $249 for the three bike and in black or silver.

If you’re waiting for the Kuat Pivot that was shown at Sea Otter, the good news is that the racks are on their way and should be here by November. After licensing the design from RakAttach, Kuat worked with the company to come up with their own slightly different version that could also be produced overseas. The result is a swing away hitch adapter for almost any 2″ receiver and rack that sells for $295.
