AlpinaGerman helmet and optics maker Alpina Sports has a couple of new helmets for both road & trail that look to step up their lightweight protection game. The new all-mountain Rootage has the most unique look with its carbon reinforced shell. While the road-going Fedaia on the other hand, is a more classically styled lightweight helmet for all types of riding. They even have a new Twist Five range of sunglasses to fit all types of riders.

Alpina Rootage carbon shell enduro mountain bike helmet

The Rootage is Alpina’s new premium enduro helmet, promising improved protection thanks to the in-mold shell, reinforced with carbon fiber plates. They claim the offers industry leading protection for a half shell helmet, while still hitting a weight of only 350g. The carbon isn’t just to protect in a crash, but with the full wrap/edge-protected shell, it will better stand up to the rough life of a trail helmet off the bike, tumbling around with your other riding gear.

Inside the Rootage uses deep ventilation channels paired to its 15 vents, especially under the adjustable visor, to keep your head cool. And then washable Coolmax pads keep the helmet fresh after hard days riding.

To keep it in place Alpina has a new wire based Run System Ergo Flex adjustable retention design that offers all of the up/down & around dial fit adjustment with a uniform fit. The 170€ Rootage comes only in white/carbon in two sizes (52-57 & 57-62cm). It is both goggle & sunglasses friendly.

Alpina Fedaia lightweight, vented road bike helmet

Named after the Fedaia pass in the Alps, that mixes climbing, flats, and even descending, the new road helmet is an all-rounder, designed to balance weight, ventilation & aerodynamics with uncompromised protection.

The 245g Fedaia uses a  full wrap 3-piece in-molded shell with 23 vents and gets plenty of dial-to-adjust fit customization. Like we’ve seen on a number of European helmets recently, the new Fedaia molds a mesh in with the EPS foam to keep insects from flying into your head.

The 100€ Fedaia comes in titanium/black, white, white/emerald green, and hi-vis yellow with reflective straps, in two sizes ranging from 53-63cm. Plus there’s an optional rear light to add visibility to for the standard color versions.

Alpina Twist Five cycling sunglasses

The latest update to Alpina’s Twist shades, the new Twist Fives are available in four different variants to suit a range of preferences and rider face sizes. The four options – full frame, no frame, and half frame in both standard and small widths – really only share the same folding design & arms.

The framed versions start at 80€ and the frameless from 140€ with several different lens options available including mirrored & photochromatic options (topping out at 180€). And of course Alpina designed each one to mesh well with Alpina’s latest helmets.

Both new helmets and sunglasses will be available from Alpina dealers by the start of spring 2018.
