Hot on the heels of the new Wahoo TICKR FIT, Scosche is fighting back with the RHYTHM24. A needed update to the RHYTHM+, the new version features an updated look along with a few key improvements that might make it an attractive option for those looking for chest strap alternatives.

Using both green and yellow optical sensors, the RYTHM24 is said to provide accurate optical heart rate measurement on any skin tone with a new PerformTek sensor. More importantly, the RHYTHM24 gets a major boost to battery life, now offering up to 24 hours of run time. That’s not quite the 30+ hours claimed by Wahoo, but it’s an improvement over the RYTHM+.

The HRM also carries an IP68 sweatproof/waterproof rating, five user changeable training/zone/modes, two multi-modes for biathletes and triathletes, Bluetooth and ANT+ compatibility, plus an LED battery indicator and on-board data recording. That last bit means you can leave the smart phone at home (or out of the pool) and carry on with your workout. The heart rate measurements have also been improved, adding a new HRV or heart rate variability metric which tracks the time between each heart beat and profiles for a number of activities including cycling, swimming, and running.

Pricing and availability

Expect the RHYTHM24 to arrive around Spring and it will sell for $99.99 with your choice of interchangeable colored arm bands.
