If your child is already pushing the limits of their current bike, it may be time to invest in something new. Already one of the leading British kids’ bike brands, Frog Bikes is adding four new models to their line up. The ‘Push The Limits’ range as it’s called, is meant to fill the gap between your average kids’ bike and an adult bike – the child may be out riding their current technology, but is not quite ready for adult geometry. Frog Bikes Push The Limits w/ performance mountain bikes & hybrid for juniors

As an alternative, Frog is offering three different mountain bikes, all with light weight performance oriented builds. From a pure performance stand point, the most important component may be their new Junior Specific suspension fork. Stating only that they worked with a “hand-picked OEM fork manufacturer,” the fork design sure does resemble a Manitou with its reverse arch and lower casting.

The forks are built with 65mm or 100mm of suspension travel (24″/26″), but most importantly, they’re air sprung forks tuned for lighter riders. According to their tuning chart, you should run the same pressure as the weight of the child in kilograms, which ends up as 20-70 psi for a 44-154lb rider. Each fork also includes a lockout lever, damping control, and the 26″ forks even throw in rebound adjust.

When added to the rest of the package, you end up with a fairly light bike. Their 24″ wheeled Frog MTB 62 comes in at 24.9 lbs. That may not sound that light, but for a kids’ bike with a working suspension fork, real 9 speed drivetrain, and hydraulic disc brakes, it’s pretty good. Meant for children from approximately 8-10, the MTB 62 has a 12.5″ aluminum frame and is priced at $790.

Moving up, the MTB 69 uses the same 6061 T6 heat treated aluminum 15″ frame and Junior suspension fork, but all for 26″ wheels and tires. Again, you’ll find a 1 x 9 Shimano drivetrain, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes and Kenda tires. Weighing in at 25.1lbs, the MTB 69 sells for $800 and is meant for 10-12 year olds.

By bumping the frame up an inch to 16″, Frog lists the MTB 72 as the bike of choice for riders 12 and up. Built with the same spec as the MTB 69, the 72 adds $10 to the price tag at $810, and weighs 25.4lbs.

If you don’t want the suspension all together, Frog is also introducing the 78 – a rigid hybrid for riders 13 and up. This is the biggest frame of them all with an 18″ seat tube but it still rolls on 26″ wheels and tires. It’s also the lightest at 22lbs, no doubt helped by the lack of a suspension fork. To help keep costs down, this bike runs a 1 x 8 Shimano drivetrain, and comes in at $540.

All of the bikes come in at least two unisex colorways, and they’re available now from your local Frog Bikes dealer.
