Expanding on their excellent magnetic mounting system, iOmounts is adding a new way to carry just about anything on your bike – the Mule. First shown as a prototype at Sea Otter, the Mule is very close to carrying your gear.

Consisting of two parts, the Mule itself is the part that mounts to any standard bottle cage mount. This piece houses two super strong magnets that interface with the Saddle – or the cradle that you can attach to just about anything. You could use it to attach to water bottles for a magnetic bottle cage that you can actually use with multiple bottles.

Or you could use the straps to hold any number of tool kits, bags, or other gear that you need to carry. Since the mounts are magnetic, it’s incredibly easy to attach and remove which is particularly useful if you have a frame with tight spaces that a traditional bottle cage just doesn’t work.

Yes, iOmounts is utilizing Kickstarter to get the project off the ground, but they do have a solid history of delivering their products and this isn’t their first rodeo. Expected to deliver in October, The Mule starts at $39 which includes a Mule, a Saddle, two tie down straps, and a double sided 3M VHB adhesive strip if you want to make the bottle mount permanent.

This is a redundant and totally unnecessary gadget. It appears to be heavy and it’s also ugly. Not for me..

WHY??

The low section of the down tube seems a good place to stick things that can easily be knocked off.

Why make it magnetic when you have to undo the straps anyway?

Agree straps good magnetic interface not understanding. I would like to have a way to strap there thing to the downtube, like a two-fish frame pump holder. I do this now with straps, but this would work better.
