Getting into bikes can be a daunting task. There’s a lot to figure out, from clothing, to equipment, to where to ride. This week the Gravel Lot sits down with Mackenzie Green and Mitch Powers from the UC Cycling Club to find out what they’ve done to get more college kids on bikes, and how the club has evolved over time.

Episode 36: Mackenzie Green and Mitch Powers from the UC Cycling Club share a coffee with us and we talk about life as college students/young adults/cyclists & all the challenges that come with trying to run a club and share the sport you love with others.

Brings back memories – I rode with the UC Cycling Club in 1987-1990 (graduated DAAP ’91) – playing bicycle frisbee on some of the campus squares; repeats up Straight St. and training across the river; we did some local racing but were never organized enough to have our own kit. Remember a TTT with the club on a beautiful steel Bianchi I’d saved up for and bought at a shop on the Riverfront. Thanks for the memories and keep up the good work!
