Longtime mountain bike footwear favorite Five Ten is a part of an Adidas initiative to completely phase out the use of virgin polyesters by 2024, with all shoes and apparel to be made with 100% recycled materials moving forward. As an Adidas Outdoor brand, Five Ten is leveraging knowledge gained from Adidas’ research on recycled, recyclable, and sustainably sourced materials to create new products with the signature fit and finish that discerning mountain bikers have come to expect.
Five Ten’s classic flat pedal shoes the Freerider ($100 USD MSRP) and Freerider Pro ($150 USD MSRP) are now offered with uppers constructed from materials made with Primeblue Parley Recycled Ocean Plastic. Parley Ocean Plastic contains plastic waste that has been intercepted from sensitive coastal areas before it can cause permanent damage and move out into the ocean.
To complete the kit, Five Ten is launching a new riding apparel line also utilizing textiles manufactured with recycled materials.
The Brave Short uses the material Primegreen, which consists of 90% recycled polyester and 10% elastane for stretch, an adjustable waistband with inner drawcord, and two front pockets. Available in men’s and women’s sizing, The Brave Short features a small concealed inner pocket secures keys and cards, and a zippered thigh pocket is sized for phones. MSRP for The Brave Short is $70.
The Brave Long Sleeve Shirt is also available in men’s and women’s sizing, and is entirely made of BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) certified cotton, 30% of which is recycled. MSRP on The Brave Long Sleeve is $40.
For a warmer weather option, Five Ten has produced their Trail Tee using the same Primeblue Parley Ocean Plastic as the Freeriders, pulling plastic off the coast and into short sleeve tops for trail riders. MSRP on the Trail Tee is $40.
