We know, helmet retention systems…yawn. Except, there are so many ways to make them, and so many ways to make them work.

And then there’s fit…even helmets from the same brand can have drastically different fits across models. But why?

In this episode, Lazer’s longtime US “helmeteer” Chris Smith explains why they use various systems, the pros and cons, and opines on how to get a helmet that fits correctly across head shapes, hairstyles, and more.

This is Part 2 of a 3-part series on bicycle helmet designs and features. Stay tuned for our interview with Giro on design to aerodynamics, and check out Part 1, where Kali’s founder explains why helmet testing standards are all wrong, and why your helmet really should be a lot softer.

That helmet HR monitor worked okay for a while, but it eventually stopped being able to read my HR accurately. It would drop out in the middle of rides and it was hard to figure out exactly what the pressure you needed was to keep it working. I eventually yanked it out in favour of a chest strap and/or my Apple Watch.
