Curve’s wildly wide Walmer handlebars get a couple of new, narrower size options for gravel and adventure riders looking for extra stability and control off-road, without getting out of hand. The bars keep the same beloved flare, but dial it back to 40cm or 43cm at the hoods for more ‘normal’ width. Curve calls them narrow Wide bars, if that makes sense to you.

There are also a couple new BP bikepacking specific versions for bolting on more adventure accessories.

We reviewed the ultra-wide Walmer bars last summer as a unique and playful option to reshape the adventure cockpit of everything from gravel bikes to dropbar mountain bikes. And while their incredible max 75cm width (60cm at the hoods) outside puts a different spin on the fit & feel of some bikes, even the narrowest 46cm bar at the time still measured up 61cm wide outside.

Curve always knew that was going to be too wide for many riders, so now they’ve added a couple narrower options, too.

Tech details – narrower WIDE bars

Keeping the same general geometry as the originals, the two new 40 & 43cm Walmer bars measure up outside to 55cm & 58cm, respectively. See, that’s still pretty wide for a ‘narrow’ dropbar.

The new ‘narrower’ Walmers are still shaped from 6066 aluminum, with 29° flare to their compact drops, plus 7° backsweep on the tops to give them more of a MTB bar feel when sitting more upright. The smaller 31.8mm clamp bar sizes keep the same shallow 110mm drop, but extend forward a tad more to a 65mm reach to balance out bringing your hands closer together.

New Wide BP bar options

In addition to narrower Wide bars, Curve’s two new Walmer BP bars add more accessory mounting capabilities for bikepacking and adventure racing. The new 46BP & 50BP bars more than double the width of the 31.8mm round clamping area on the tops of these two bar sizes, to provide more room to bolt-on accessories like bags, lights, computer mounts, bells, and aero bars… or anything else you can think of.

For example, the new 46BP bar ends up with a ~190mm wide clamping area (vs. ~70mm standard) and the 50BP gets 240+mm (vs. ~110mm standard). Those appear to be about as much or more than on the giant 60cm bar I ride (see MTB photo, at top) which has plenty of room to attach anything I could imagine.

The BP edition bars also get the same geometry as the new narrower bars, with 29° flare, 7° backsweep, 110mm drop, and the longer 65mm reach.

Wearing a giant backpack while riding a bike doesn’t look enjoyable at all.
