What started out under a different name and ownership has been reworked as Bike 20/20, helping both independent bike shops and the major brands sell last season’s models at a steep discount. The model benefits everyone, helping the dealers and companies clear out aging inventory, and the rest of us can get a killer deal on a new bike.

The site shows whether the bike is for sale directly from the manufacturer or from a local shop, whether they can ship it directly to you, or if you’ll need to pick it up from a local dealer for that brand. Whether or not the bike shop can ship its inventory to your door is up to the shop and any restrictions the brand has on “internet” sales, but by and large their catalog gives you access to a whole lot of bikes. Brands like Focus, Cannondale, Pivot, Specialized and more are showing up on the Bike2020.com homepage.

Just drop the www at the beginning and you’ll be good to go.

Are these leftovers or poorly welded seconds or worse? How do they weed out fakes and knockoffs?

The best solution is to just get rid of model years. Than that stock that my LBS carries all year doesn’t just arbitrarily lose it’s value because a new model year bike comes out.

I like this idea. But then how do you answer the question “What year is that frame bro?”

SantaCruz seems to do fine with it, as do a few other smaller companies. I see people referring to v.2 or mk2 to designate a 2nd generation version of a bike, for example.

This post look more like an advertisement then actual news, or “Rumor”. Is this paid content?

I was interested until I read “ANNUAL PLAN COST $479.95”! Local Bike Shops already have tight margins, why would they want to pay for something that can be done for free elsewhere? Like Ebay or Craig’s list. Bike2020 is adding a “middle man” with little value, and judging from the swag store they are trying to skim money from kayaks and skis too.

Thanks for the comment – Our annual plans start at $179.95 and you can list 30 bikes a month for that price. The $479.95 is for the unlimited plan. We are not a “middle man” in any way as we do not transact any sales. Your plan covers 100% of all costs. “eBay” (as you mention) is NOT free. You will pay up to 17% fees on each sale resulting in a fee cost on a bike selling for $2,500 of $251.10 (using their fee calculator). Love to have you on board!

I apologize for the incorrect information regarding Ebay (Ebay is free if the item doesn’t sell). None of the plans fit our needs. We have less than 30 bike on “closeout”, our New bikes are selling fine. If I sign-up for the “10 day free test plan”, and choose not to purchase service, how long is our data saved for? Could I sign-up in the Fall (6 months from now) and reactivate any items that didn’t sell over the summer? Could I list used bikes?

I meant “middle man” in the sense that the customer is finding the “us” through you.
Customer -> You -> Us.

I wish you luck, but I don’t see Bike2020 in our future, unless you can offer a plan that doesn’t cost money until a sale occurs.

Cheers

For .49 a day as advertisement you can broadcast that you are dealer for brand X to a larger audience than what brand X is going to do for you on their dealer locator and your website alone. My buddies shop signed up a month ago and has increased traffic in both the store and web hits after signing on with Bike2020. Saved more money through this than using eBay and dropped the Bike Exchange (middle man) in the process.
