bikerumor pic of the day Leh–Manali Highway, leaching la pass, india

Photo submitted by John Barnard, “We were on a ten day ride – Manali – Leh Highway – in northern India. We have just gone over a pass – Lachung La (16,663ft) – on the way to Pang (15,640ft), highest army base in India. The red coat is Chris riding a Co-Motion. Gearing – Front – 40×24, rear – 11×36. Guess what gear she used the most.”

We always love to see your photos and would like to show them to the world here on the Pic Of The Day. Send in your photo with a brief description here.

I was like… ummm… there are no peop… oh..there’s on person in black. I had to read the rest to even begin to look for someone else. 16,663 ft is a lot of up.

I did that ride back in 2011, epic stuff. Highest passes in the world, thankfully the grades are pretty mellow because your heart rate skyrockets even under light pedaling at that altitude! Would love to return to the Himalayas!

I always thought that the lack of oxygen at altitude made it so you could not get your heart rate to go as high as you can at sea level.
