BIKERUMOR.com 2009 SEA OTTER CLASSIC COVERAGE: Rotor was showing their prototype elliptical chainring crankset that’s being tested with the Cervelo Test Team.  The aluminum crank arms have three drillings running the lengths of the arms, two starting from the pedal side, one in the center from the spindle side.  The detail below shows the holes with a cutaway view, click to enlarge.  Their goal is light weight with rigidity that surpasses carbon fiber.

They also had a new Agilis 2×9 mountain bike crankset (on right) and were displaying the 2×9 eliptical crankset with Specialized carbon fiber arms that their pro mountain bike racers are using.  The Agilis uses 40 / 27 chainrings and weighs 756g for the crankset with rings.  Their ceramic BB adds 94g.  They use a 110/74 five-bolt pattern rings and have a narrow 163mm Q factor.

The Rotor SP-1 (Seat Post 1) will have Ti bolts, a forged aluminum head and extruded body.  Rotor claims it’ll have a huge range of adjustability in a design that won’t creak.  MSRP is expected around 90€ (US pricing not set yet).

Rotor’s new SD-1 (Saddle 1) weighs in at a scant 136g and will retail for about 90€ to 100€.  It has hollow Ti rails, a Lorica cover and composite shell body.
