Originally shown in February as the mouthful Domahidy Designs Titanium All-Mountain Pinion Hardtail has simply been renamed the Viral Skeptic, giving both brand and bike a rebadge.

Domahidy, who started out as a co-founder of Niner Bikes and went on to consult with Factor and others before launching his namesake brand in 2014. Now, he’s rebranded as Viral, and used the opportunity to tweak the geometry of the Skeptic a bit since he first showed it. The seat angle gets 1º steeper to improve the front-center measurement, and they’ve added an XL size to the pre-order options. Pre-order deadline has moved back to April 31 with delivery in late summer 2016. All pre-orders will still come with a free set of Industry Nine Backcountry 27.5+ or Trail 29er wheels in your choice of hub and spoke colors. Bikes will come painted in hot pink or metallic brown. And, like before, all of his bikes will come with a free year membership to IMBA and a pair of IMBA cycling socks…

The Skeptic is built with Boost 148mm rear spacing and is designed around a 120mm to 140mm fork. It’ll fit up to 27.5×3.0 tires, or run it with narrower 29er wheels and tires. Pre-order pricing with the wheels is $4,995.

To speed up the transition to the new brand name, all remaining Domahidy Designs inventory is being blown out at 40% off new frames and 50-60% off used demo bikes.

Supposedly, a bike with a Pinion gearbox is around 800g heavier than a bike with a high-end derailleur drivetrain. That sound like a lot to probably most people who ride mountain bikes, but let’s remember that a glass of water weighs about the same.

That’s one big glass of water you must be drinking!

and he said LET THERE BE LIGHT

no drivetrain maintenance – great investment in time and $ broheims. 100% awesome for all except the .1% racer bro’s that have 2% body fat.

IM FOR IT

I’m sorry, but the ‘Viral’ brand looks like something you’d see at Target or Walmart. Should’ve stuck with the Domahidy name and brand.

Cool concept. Horrible new name. Dig the rootbeer color though.

The Pinion site only has german & spanish ride reviews, anyone have a link to an english review for non-polyglots?
Just wondering if the weight penalty = something better than regular gears.

That is the wrap up review, but you can link back to the earlier articles from there too. I think that bike is fitted with the 18spd Pinion, but many co.s are using the 12spd pinion too, which is supposed to be lighter and faster shifting for certain gears, if I remember correctly, so don’t paint your opinion with too broad a brush.

Agree 200% with @DJ: the Domahidy name and graphic design were dope.

Viral? Ugh. Screams big box store or eBay Chinese brand fakery. Huge, huge, HUGE fail on the re-branding.

Steve: you have the gift of an unusual and memorable name and (had, past tense) an excellent eye for graphic design. Why, why, why? : (

You really can’t please all the people all the time. A few month ago some people were complaining about the graphic design and different name of Domahidy Designs. Now some people love the old stuff and hate the new. I think Steve was smart to brand the bikes with a simple name that more people will get. And I really don’t think too many people are going to mistake a plus size, pinon gear box Ti bike for an eBay Chinese brand. That just doesn’t make sense.

I do like the fact that it’s a mountain bike and it comes in pink (not baby poop brown). There… positive comments complete. 🙂

Domahidy was not a marketable name. I’m more concerned that the bikes aren’t tremendously novel. I wish I had his money. I could do some fun stuff.
