Based on the performance of their LED bicycle lights, Knog’s newest products aren’t such a stretch. Sure, their new expose smartphone light isn’t exactly bicycle specific, but it bridges the gap between bicycle lights and consumer electronics. The expose series launches alongside their Qudos action camera light system which allows you to film with your GoPro, even in the dark.
Knog may be brightening up their light portfolio but there are some new bike specific products as well….
Designed as an accessory for the iPhone, the expose smart is an app-centric device that communicates with the phone through Bluetooth LE. Rechargeable with a micro USB port, with a single charge lasting weeks depending on the use. The expose smart uses the included app to provide the right amount of light for photos or video to prevent grainy images. Since the device doesn’t actually communicate with the phone through the charging port, you can remove it for remote lighting purposes or use the app to sync multiple lights. Available this Christmas for $59, Knog will follow the iPhone version with a Samsung model in the future.
A little more in the bicycle space, the new Knog Qudos means you won’t have to put away your action camera just because it’s getting dark. The Qudos uses up to 400 lumens to make your action videography pop and retails for only $119. The kit includes a side by side mount for the GoPro as well as a hot shoe mount for DSLRs. Completely waterproof to 120 feet, the Qudos will also make for an excellent video light for diving.
Many of us here in the states might not even be aware that Germany has their own standard specifically for bicycle lights. Going by the name of StVZO (Straßenverkehrs-Zulassungs-Ordnung), the strict requirements of the standard have even garnered an entry into the Urban Dictionary. Whatever your feelings towards the light standard, manufacturers are starting to produce lights that adhere to the requirements and Knog is one of the latest to do so. Knog mentioned the light is coming soon, but has no firm date on delivery.
As a prototype, Knog is working on a battery case for phones that will have a video light built in. No word on when this may see production.
Oh yea, bike locks. Decidedly low tech compared to the electronic gizmos, Knog is introducing combination equipped version of their popular Sausage, Milk Man, and Twisted Combo locks. Still boasting colorful silicone coverings, the locks will sit alongside their keyed counterparts.
