Earlier this summer BMC introduced a new Speedfox trail bike with an integrated dropper seatpost linked to a suspension remote. They even debuted a new 150mm travel Trailfox AMP eMTB for those looking to get a bit more serious off-road. Now they bring the two together in the new Speedfox AMP, a 29er e-bike to round out their collection for all around trail mountain biking.

Speedfox AMP 29″ carbon trail eMTB

The new Speedfox AMP shares a lot with the Trailfox AMP, from the looks & styling of its full carbon frame to the actual structure of its unique double down tube that houses the power source and works with the Shimano E8000 drive motor. It even uses the same APS, shirt-link four bar suspension with a progressive spring rate for aggressive trail riding.

What’s different is that this bike dials back the travel to 130mm at both ends and sticks with the larger 29″ wheels. While each of the bikes in the family do include dropper seatpost, they don’t include the Trailsync shock/dropper integration like the standard Speedfox. That probably makes sense, as Trailsync is all about pedaling efficiency, something less critical on the e-bike version. But the clean look on the Trailsync equipped Speedfoxes is nice.

That downtube setup is what BMC calls Twin Hollow-core, and is effectively two seperate carbon tubes joined on the inside of the front triangle and open to the bottom where the large battery squeezes in.

BMC officially lists tire clearance for the Trailfox AMP at 58mm (just 2.28″) but the bikes come spec’ed with 29×2.35″ Maxxis Forekaster rubber mounted to 30mm internal DT Swiss HX eMTB-specific wheels.

The Speedfox AMP is available three models. Only the top-level Speedfox AMP LTD (top in olive) with XTR Di2 gets a full carbon setup. The Speedfox AMP One (middle in gray) with XT Di2 swaps in a one-piece aluminum rear triangle, as does the red Speedfox AMP Two (above in red) with mechanical XT.

If you think mountain bikes had a hard time getting on trails in the 80’s, wait till the anti bicycle guys get these in there teeth….(Sierra Club types)

Is that an e-bike specific saddle?

Skip. It’s pretty simple in my opinion. You can ride an e-bike on a motorized trail and can’t on a non-motorized one. Simple as that. Probably not too many Sierra Clubbers hiking on moto friendly trails. Problem solved!

God, I hope so. For my part, I still have not seen (or maybe just not noticed) an e-bike on an MTB trail near Seattle.

This story has been up for a few hours and no one has commented “I thought this was bikerumor not motorbikerumor” or something lame like that. Very surprising.

Not lame at all. Once you introduce non-human assistance onto amy type of vehicle, it becomes a different animal with a different market.

Plus soon if not already, it will not even be possible to stay current on product analysis in both markets.
Even if BR continues this dual coverage, it risks alienating each, because there are wholly different issues with motorized vehicles.

This is completely incorrect. E-bikes are bikes. People who buy e-bikes are looking for a bike and a cycling experience.

There is no shortage to those who attempt to shame e-bikes and cyclists whom chose them.

And motor bikes are also bikes. There is not shame in an ebike for commuting. As for recreation on my local trails, unless you fall into the 0.1% with a disability then they are motorbikes and need stay away. If you can’t pedal then you don’t have the upper body strength to manage it nor the leg power to push it out when you get stuck (and you will). Has an electric motor is a motorbike – even if the motor is just “assist”.

The ebike in the top photo (AMP Ltd.), that’s probably the best looking eMTB I’ve seen to date. Don’t agree with them being used on trails but it’s still a pretty nice looking rig.

Simple question: We knows why motorbikes aren’t allowed to use trails but why E-MTB would be banned….?

Because they have a motor in them. Has a motor is a motorcycle.

Just the fact?( I mean just the motor or it depends on the type of the engine)…..?

I mean if Nike introduce a new shoe with an integreated engine to help to run or walk, this sort of shoes will be baned….?

Ebikes are being used on our local trails, even though they are not allowed. It is either ignorance or a lack of respect.

lack of respect? what’s the difference? the eMTBs aren’t doing any more damage to terrain than regular MTBs. if you’re throwing out the ban notion simply because you wouldn’t get one yourself, or subscribe to the movement, then you’re just bitter and care too much about what other people do. do you…be you, stop hating. for the love of god. i remember choking on all the bs old schooler skiers that laughed at my 110mm wide skis. all this hogwash about cheating and how it made it easy to run powder, blah blah. sports progress, equipment evolves, the sport will and has remained basically the same, as will MTB’ing, e-bikes or no… y’all sound like a bunch of old farts.
