The Fidlock magnetic, cageless water bottle design first debuted with partner Restrap two years ago. Now Fidlock is back again directly, dropping the bottle altogether with their latest Uni Connector. With a Boa dial, the Uni uses two cable loops to cinch down any object around the size of a bottle – think a can of Coke (or a beer?), a thermos, or a stack of energy bars. Then attach it to your bike with their regular magnetic mounts….

The Uni Connector pairs the easy-to-use twist-lock magnetic mounting of their standard Fidlock water bottle with even more freedom from the bottle cage thanks to a Boa wire & dial setup.

With a single Boa dial, the two-wire loop opens to hold anything up to 80mm in diameter, or more importantly 250mm in circumference since if doesn’t need to be round. (Why does it always have to be bananas getting squished, though?)

The idea is of course that the Fidlock Uni Connector turns anything into a Fidlock Bottle, easy to get on & off your bike, and mounted securely. The Uni Connector relies on a little bit of give in what you are hauling to get the most secure hold on it – think of a soda can or water bottle, or to a certain extent again a banana (yuck!)

But the Uni does have a non-slip rubber insert between your ‘bottle’ and the mount which is said to offer a firm grip on more rigid items too.

Fidlock has shown it hauling things like a bottle of Champagne on New Years, a thermos of hot tea on a winter’s ride, or a can of beer if you are into warm beer shaken up as much as possible.

Besides the typical two-bolt bottle cage mount, Fidlock also offers a rubber strap-on Uni Base that can be mounted securely where you don’t have cage bolts, or a Tex Base designed to mount over a wide webbing strap to add a bottle to something like the waist strap of a backpack.

The standard Uni Connector sells for $50 / 40€ including the two-bolt Bike Base, together weighing 70g. Find them at some local shops or through a number of online retailers.

Bottle of champagne you say? These seem better than most solutions for suspension fork bikepacking cages. Wonder what practical weight limit these have?

For some stuff- maybe a bit useless or possibly could result in lost gear.
For other items? Brilliant. Clever. And absolutely (maybe) worth it!

I wouldn’t mind having a streamlined version of this, say a lower profile and a wider strap that I can use not for carrying a bottle, but to used instead of a seat pack or frame bag, that I could mount anywhere on my frame. It does show it as such, but no low profile, or where your tools, tubes and gear fit closer to the frame. Maybe without the magnetic part?
This does give me ideas though.

Check out the monkii cage (and accessories) from free parable design, they have been doing the same concept as this (minus the BOA) for years and they even have bags that attach to them. No affiliation, just an admirer of it since seeing it at Interbike a long time ago.

There is no chance of this holding any can (or bottle of champagne) securely while riding offroad trails. Get real.

I put a bottle of wine in a Arundel Loony Bin once when I stopped at a winery on a ride (yup, just like in their ad). I didn’t ride offroad though, because I didn’t want to tear the rivnuts out of my frame.

Awesome! Definitely going to but one when they’re on clearance for $7.99 in 6 or 12 months.
