Join a Sumo Ride and help give worthy kids a shot at better education – Sumo Ride was started by the tech guy behind AppSumo and okDork. His thinking was that open access to computers has enabled him to pursue his business ideas and lead a charmed life, so why not give underprivileged that same opportunity. It started as a single charity ride last November. They raised money to give kids in East Austin, TX 50 laptops. So they set out two more rides.

The next will be in Austin again this April, but that already sold out. The following one in August in Pittsburg, also has closed online registration. But it looks like there may still be spots available for donors. Get in touch, if you want to get involved, and help entrepreneur Noah Kagan grow more opportunities for the next generation of big thinkers. Sumoride.com

Where (else) to Ride

  • Ride the 4th SnowBall’s Chance this March 30, Anyone can win! – This year’s crazy event raises FUNds for the WaterShed Trails of Port Jervis, NY. The ride, race, or whatever it is will be run as a Poker Ride (5 card stud). No need to “race” or be in a hurry. You can ride with your friends as a group ride, a personal challenge, a scavenger hunt, time trial, or however you want. This is all about The Experience!! You just have to finish and make sure your “hand” is turned in by 3:00pm. The shortest total mileage to get to all 4 checkpoints will be about 10 miles, but again you can take the long/more fun way if you want. Check it out on Facebook.

Industry News

  • MIPS calls for industry to update how helmets are tested – As an industry leader in safeguarding our heads, MIPS has put out a call to global governing bodies to address “the lack of standards for testing rotational motion in helmets”. Crashes aren’t just dropping a rock on our heads like in the tests. The MIPS team has run 22,000 of their own tests looking at radial & tangential forces, working with Virginia Tech in a comprehensive analysis. And not all approved helmets do well at protecting against more real world situations. MIPS hopes that with new standards, cyclists will have a better sense of the protection their helmet offers.
