Gaerne just introduced their premium Carbon G.Sincro+ mountain bike shoes last summer, at the same time as their newest road G.Stilo+ shoes. Both share the same techy synthetic upper with dual Boa closures, but the mountain shoes got one of two of their own carbon soles with laminated lugged tread. Both those mountain bike sole options get a no-cost upgrade thanks to a development partnership with Michelin.

Gaerne mountain bike shoes + Michelin Soles

Northwave had been the first shoemaker to partner with the relatively new Michelin Soles division. Making a name for themselves in the couple of seasons since, the new mountain bike soles from Michelin use a proprietary rubber molding tech that allows Michelin to create multi-compound tread blocks much like we see in tires that stands up quite well to wear over time.

So far Gaerne has shared photos of their ultra-stiff, full carbon EPS Light Weight Carbon Fiber MTB sole, and the carbon-reinforced nylon EPS Carbon Power MTB sole better suited for a bit of hike-a-bike or cyclocross, both with the new Michelin tread. The design of the new lugs is not all that different from the previous version, although the look to use generally smaller more solid tread blocks with more even spacing between them for improved self-cleaning/shedding of mud.

The Light Weight Carbon sole will come on the high-end 370€ Carbon G.Sincro+ mountain bike shoes, while the Carbon Power sole will debut on the 330€ version of the G.Sincro+ or the 300€ G.Kobra+.

I think Boas should go on top, over the tongue, when used on MTB shoes. Sticks and stones find a way, so moving them on top helps shield them.

Also if you crash in shoes with side-mounted Boas, you might rip them off like I did a month ago in CX race. Top mounted is the way to go.

Gaerne has always had one of the narrowest lasts in the industry. They are for narrow feet only.

disagree…..I require a wide Shimano and can’t wear SIDI, but regular Gaerne fits like a charm

Disagree, too … Gaerne fits my wide feet perfectly. I do not wear any other manufacturer ever since. SIDI are a no-go for my feet.
