We have some friends that keep trying to use their video camera to film their riding, which doesn’t come out great while riding, so I started looking around. GoPro released their new HERO Wide 5 megapixel camera recently, and the video samples from their site are pretty impressive.  The new Wide Angle version captures a full 170 degree field of vision, which lets you see (as in the video above) a good bit of the surrounding fauna as you rip through the trail.

GoPro cameras can be used for cycling, motorsports and watersports, and this model’s waterproof housing is good down to 100′.  So, if you need to document your underwater riding world record attempt, here’s your camera.

The helmet cam comes with every type of mount you’d need regardless of helmet style, including a strap that runs through vents, various stick-on mounts and even a sidebar attachment to run the camera on the side of your helmet.

It’ll take about 56 minutes of 512×384 video, which is stored on a (not included) 2GB SD memory card.  You can set it to also take still shots every two or five seconds, even during video recording.  The camera runs on two AAA batteries.  Batteries are not included, but they recommend Lithium Ion.  MSRP is $189.99.

If you already have a GoPro camera setup, you can upgrade to the Wide Angle lens for $139.99.

We’ve got a unit requested for review, so we’ll report back on ease of use, set up and download as soon as we get our hands on it!
