VP VX Pedal 2014 Updates (2)

Last year, VP introduced a comprehensive line of clipless pedals for every price point. This year, they’ve made subtle but significant improvements to the design.

The cleat area is now more ramped, which helps shed mud, but also makes it easier to clip in. The redesigned pedals also have more side to side float, and the exterior platforms have been reshaped to reduce rock strikes. For the same price, the pedals are now roughly 25-30g lighter than last years models.

VP Harrier Altitude (2)

The Altitude is the upscale version of the Harrier pedal, which I’ve been riding for the past few months. This version keeps the same gigantic 120x110mm platform, but is ~78g lighter.

They’ve been able to shave weight by using a forged Ti axle, and doing additional machining to the forged aluminum body. Claimed weight for the new pedal is 295g.

The only update to the Harrier is that the pedals will now ship with an additional O-ring, which will help eliminate any play that develops as the bushings break in.

Just looking at the pins on those platform pedals hurts my shins.

Stunning pedals… But how thick are they?

My shins are still recovering from the bear claw pedals of the 90’s. I literally have small divots in my shin from pedal slips when I was a kid.

The Harriers are excellent pedals. I have been using them now for 3+ months with zero issues. I was using Spank Spikes prior and feel the Harriers are an upgrade. Combined with 5.10’s and you can’t go wrong!
