Lake Custom shoe doping lets you match bike, kit, cat, whatever… on road or trail

We’ve touched on Lake’s custom shoe program a couple of times in recent years, but as their shoe doping scheme gets stronger it’s worth revisiting. Starting with a premium pair of carbon-soled Lake CX402 or CX332 road shoes, or MX332 mountain bike shoes, how to paint the blank canvas is completely up to you.

The standard customization will run you $590 for their top CX402 road shoe. The $480 CX/MX332 adds the option for road, cyclocross, or mountain bike specific soles.

If you want to simply do a custom block color look, Lake’s online customization wizard has you covered. It guides step-by-step through the process of selecting the sole you need, then the upper material, and then individually picking each panel & logo color. They’ve been doing this since 1982, so they’ve got the technicolor shoes down pat.

But if you want to go fully custom (trust me, if you came this far, you know you want to!) it’s going to be best to get in touch with Lake directly.

Full custom graphics will bring the CX402 up to $650 or the CX/MX332 up to $550. You know you are worth it.

Lake is going to have to improve build quality to garner that price. I’ve used their high end shoe I think the cx 332 and the tongue split in 14 months of riding (about 9-10,000 miles) and at that point they looked terrible anyway with permanent stains on the white leather, chipped soles, seams along the bottom of the soles separating etc. My S-Works 6’s almost look brand new after the same time period of use.
