Yesterday, Geomangear sent out an update on the battery recall situation we reported earlier this week.  Judging from the comments on our earlier post, a lot of riders are following this situation- and Geomangear asks for their patience while they work to resolve issues with their product.  Riders who purchased their lights within the past 90 days are now being offered a full refund on their lights.  Read on for more information…

Dear Geomangear Customers,

We are a small, family-owned and operated company dedicated to selling quality products and providing excellent customer service. We are very sorry but due to an overwhelming response we are currently not able to personally respond to most emails. We need to dedicate our limited manpower to the task of working with the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission, outside engineering consultants, and a new battery pack supplier to evaluate product recall options for our customers.

Please use our Contact form to notify us of:

1. A warranty problem on a non-battery product within the 90 day warranty period.
2. If you have questions about other products we are currently selling.
3. To request a refund for a lightset purchased within the 90 day warranty period.

Please note we are unable at this time to offer a refund if your lightset is outside of the 90 day warranty period. However, we are working very hard on a remedy with your satisfaction as our goal.

Please check our new Magicshine Recall webpage often for new information. Remember all information we now post must be approved by the Safety Commission. We can not provide any more specifics than what is currently on our website.

You can also find more information on our Facebook and Twitter pages. You can find links to these from our website home page.

We again thank you for your patience and cooperation in this most difficult situation.

Thanks!!
Geoman

Imagine, a light that seemed to good to be true in the first place, actually is too good to be true. go figure.

Douche comment by Stan… not everyone has the money to drop $400+ on a set of lupines. Magicshine was great alternative to expensive lights and folks without the skill or time to DIY. This sucks for all MS owners, but not for clairvoyant Stan.

Still too good to be true. Still using my MS lights twice a week and they work just fine. Medium setting as I ride in VERY dark places.

Seriously, most of these lights are ridiculously over-priced…I like the MS.

I haven’t seen any real evidence of these being dangerous. I am using mine and charging it on my kitchen counter when I get home. No issues and no one of the 20 or so people I know with them has had any issues.

No issues here, even after my three long night rides this week and two re-charges.
the rear red brake light is so bright it looks like a BMW car tail light. Its badass.

Cyclocross season is not over yet – neither are the rides after work.

Stan please send me your MS light, I will gladly take them off your douche hands.

Loving the “hater’s” who spent too much on a there bike specific light and feel the need to celebrate when a fault appears on the MS units. Yet it that big a fault that only a single US re-seller has stopped selling it, Europe, UK & the original reseller Dealextreme have issued no recall & not stopped selling them. The unit is being resold by numerous retails in the UK, including very reputable Merlin Cycles and still remains available by numerous US resellers on eBay..

I haven’t had a problem with the batteries yet, but am definitely worried.

For now, however, I shall keep riding.

GeoManGear has sold 20,000 MS LED systems with only 2 claimed reports of sparking while charging. 0.01% failure rate is very good if even true — possibly these sparking incidents were from a jealous competitor posing as an innocent end-user? Any Li-ion battery must be charged with caution; simply place battery in a metal bowl or skillet during charge. GeoMan is doing much more than necessary and is greatly appreciated.

There is no proof that the fire incidents are caused by MagicShine battery packs. Even before the recall, MagicShine used batteries from a trusted ceritified supplier. Safety is always the 1st priority in MagicShine. From December 2010, to restore customers confidence and provide better products to customers, MagicShine had decided and switched to a larger UL/CE/RoHS/ISO9001 certified battery provider as its battery supplier.
