Mondraker has boosted fork travel of the Chrono Hardtail to bring a “Downcountry” version to market; the Chrono DC. It is an entirely new frame developed from the ground-up, and equipped with a 120mm travel fork to produce a slacker geometry with a 68.5° head angle. That, and its higher volume 29″ x 2.4″ tires are said to make it more capable, conferring more confidence to the rider when tackling technical descents.

The Chrono DC is a 29″ downcountry hardtail, launching with just two models; the Chrono DC R (pictured) and the Chrono DC, retailing at $2,599 USD and $2,199 USD, respectively, featuring the very same aluminum frameset. The 68.5° head angle is paired with a 74.5° seat tube angle and 435mm chainstays that are consistent across the size range. Reach comes in at 425mm on a size small, 440mm on the medium, 460mm on the Large and 475mm on the XL. The complete geometry chart can be found below.

Both models are equipped with an adjustable length dropper seat post in the form of the ONOFF Pija. The S and M frames get a 95-120mm post, while the L and XL frames get a 120-150mm post.

While that improves clearance for the rider to be more dynamic on descents, the Chrono DC also sees shorter stems than the Chrono; 50mm on the S and M, 60mm on the L and 70mm on the XL, in a bid to speed up front-end handling. The brake rotors also get the DC treatment by going up to 180mm at the front.

Both models are kitted out with an aluminum wheelset with a 25mm internal width rim, home to Maxxis Ardent 29″ x 2.4″ tires, a SRAM SX 12 Speed Eagle Drivetrain (11-50T cassette) and SRAM Level 2-Piston Brakes. The more affordable Chrono DC sports a RockShox Judy Silver fork while the higher-end Chrono DC R runs a Fox 32 Rythm fork with the GRIP Damper.
