If you’re gonna build from scratch a bike that can “do it all”, you may as well design it so the geometry is right for “all” as well. And that was the concept behind Liebo Bicycle’s Kitchunsync road bike, a project that was four years in the making. Blending capabilities for road, cyclocross and gravel into a single bike is a concept that’s gaining ground, but this one allows you to adjust the head angle and wheelbase depending on what sort of ride you’re after. With clever (and perhaps the first) use of a Cane Creek Angleset headset on a  road bike, builder Dave Lieberman found other clever ways to get what he wanted…

The Angleset allows for angle adjustments of +/- 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 degrees, plus the center 0º setting, which totals a massive 6º swing. Lieberman suggests only a couple of angles for most uses, but the freedom to experiment is there. On the ground, that equates to a 3.5cm range of wheel movement.

At the other end of the bike are sliding dropouts, which provide another 2.2cm of wheelbase adjustment. Chainstay length floats from roughly 410mm to 430mm. The most impressive part of it all? You can fit a 700×35 tire in there in all of the positions and angles, or a 32mm tire with fenders. Rack and fender mounts are in place for light touring as well.

Helping make all this possible are FSA’s BB386 EVO cranksets. Because they have a wider spindle, they keep the chainline correct with the wider rear end that disc brake hubs use. And since they use a wider BB shell, the chainstays can be pushed farther apart to allow for better tire clearance without running into the chainrings. Perhaps it wasn’t such a silly idea after all.

Uhmmmm… +/- 1.5 degrees equals 3 degrees of swing, not 6.

35mm tires – most impressive feature or least impressive? 45mm would be impressive.

@ Benny Watson, 410 chainstays and 35c tires is impressive. In the longer positions the clearance would easily be even greater (well I hope) All this bike needs is an eccentric bb two adjust front reach and bb height.

I concur Mr. Watson, but I’d urge for the ability to run 29×2.1 or 27.5×2.6 and flat bars. Gravel, road, or XC mtb.

Yeah! A bike for gravel rides that can’t even fit 40mm tires…just what I was looking for.

They said 35 with the wheel all the way forward. No idea why they don’t mention if it can go wider with the wheel pushed back? I’m guessing the indent on the inside of the stays won’t let you go any wider which kinda stinks. Overall though, cool bike but it would be nice if it had the ability to go to a 2″ 29er tire like an All-City Macho Man or the Specialize Touring bike which can squeeze “some” 2.2″ tires on while having OK FD clearance.

Won’t the sliding drop-outs require adjusting cable tension for the rear derailleur?

This is a great breakthrough. The flexibility offered is something to be excited about. After reading all of the comments on here, I CANNOT believe that after someone finally brings you new innovations, you still find a way to BELITTLE it and not be excited. This innovation is something that has never been accomplished in such a mindfully thoughtful manner. Stop focusing on the negatives and focus on the positives that you are being provided. Things can only improve but THIS manufacturer (Liebo) is doing what OTHERS are NOT.

Bernard…the cable stop is in front of the sliders. So long as you have enough rear housing, you won’t even need to think about it

I agree with REA. The armchair critics found on many online forums seem to focus on all negative. I had the opportunity to actually speak with the builder at the show. Keep in mind, they do custom bikes, the one at the show just so happened to have the 35cc stays. Dont quote me on it, but I’m quite sure they can do a 45cc tire as well if it is requested. Get in touch with the builder, hes great to talk too. I think its fascinating a builder is providing ways to let one adjust their own ride to experiment and learn hands on about bike handling and geometry.
