Weis Cycles showed off their unique offset seatstay design, which they say improves rear end stiffness, on a few bikes. They build in aluminum and steel, all handmade in Brooklyn, NY. The eye-catcher was this splatter paint track bike…
…but it was the bare frame that really showed off the subtle details. Their oversized Speed Stay on the driveside pairs with the offset seatstays on Hammer models, which are available in both alloy and steel builds.

VLAD CYCLES
Vlad Cycles is full custom, using computer aided design to create the geometry, then TIG welding True Temper, Dedacciai, Columbus, and Reynolds tubes together to create road, mountain or something in between (aka Gravel, Monster Cross, etc.). While his road bikes look fairly traditional, its these other creations that show his style.
An 83mm BB shell on this green bike lets him fit 27.5 x 3.25″ tires.
This Fat uses that same 83mm bottom bracket shell, but they flip the Race Face chainring to add chain/tire clearance without having to crimp or dimple the chainstays…or go so wide at the BB that Q-Factor gets spread out.
The detail inside the split top tube is a nod to the brand name…get it?
It’s Vlad the Impaler. But I know you got that on your own. This bike is for a customer who’s doing an event in memory of a friend.

NORTHERN FRAMEWORKS
Northern Frames’ collection was small and simple, but hid a few nice touches.
Their root beer colored hardtail made room for bigger tires with a solid chainstay yoke section and bent seat tube.
And they talked Paul Component into doing a custom brown set of components. These were a few shades different than the coppery brown ones put together for UltraRomance’s bike, too, showing that the Chico, CA, component company can do one offs if they’re into the project. SALTAIR CYCLES
This city commuter bike took home the President’s Choice Award from NAHBS 2018, along with honorable mentions for Best City/Utility Bike. SaltAir Cycles combined a clean build, bright and beautiful paint, and what might be the perfect year-round transmission for this customer looking to replace his car with a bicycle.
What really set this bike apart was the drop bar shifter integration for the Pinion gear box. Pinion’s stock offerings are twist-style shifters, which typically end up on the lower ends of a drop bar handlebar (if at all, most every bike using it has flat bars). But thanks to the new drop bar brake lever shifter from Cinq5, this one has a much more ergonomically intuitive setup.
The Cinq5 Shift:R Road was designed for the Rohloff Speed hubs, but works here, too.
