Nothing says “punk rock” like an aggressive, ready-to-shred hardtail with up to 160mm of front travel. Right?
Right.
Ionic is bringing back the early 2000’s “legendary hardtail mountain bike”, the Johnny Rotten Hardtail. I guess the John Joseph Lydon Hardtail didn’t quite roll off the tongue.
With pre-orders being taken now, Ionic is saying that the first batch of bikes will be complete and ready to deliver in February 2023 if not sooner. And look, I’ve heard that securing one of these rigs will increase your Public Image tenfold… eh, eh? See what I did there? You’re welcome.
Ionic says these frames are “hand-built in Boulder Co. by people who know and love bicycles.”
While details on the frame specification and material are limited, Ionic does state that, “we build each frame with a special blend of Tange Prestige and Deda that is unique to Ionic you will not find on other bikes out there.”
Build Kits and Pricing
Ionic is offering four different purchase options, according to their website. It’s a little confusing, but if we understand it correctly you have the choice of:
- Johnny Rotten Hardtail 29er frame only: $2250
- Jonny Rotten frame plus Fork and Headset (fork not specified, but possibly the RockShox Pike Select from complete builds): $3,140
- Complete SRAM Eagle GX build: $5,321
- Complete SRAM Eagle XO1 build: $7,498
Ionic is providing the bikes in sizes small through X-Large. There’s also the option for a custom frame with a $500 upcharge and an additional 4-6 week lead time.
