PEARL iZUMi recently released their new Dirt Collection and in doing so blurred the lines between duds best suited for mountain, gravel, and urban riding. The goal for the new catalog of products is to give riders the freedom to select layers based on form and function rather than the style of bike they ride.
Borrowing from their mountain bike catalog as well as their new Versa collection of casual cycling pieces, the curated Dirt Collection contains a compressive assortment of jerseys, shorts, pants, liners, jackets, and even shoes, gloves, and socks. Whether tackling singletrack, crushing gravel, or riding across town, the entire lineup offers all of the performance of PEARL iZUMi’s riding apparel without an overly technical appearance.
All of the items are offered with stylish but tasteful graphics with some tops available in as many as eight different colors. For riders who want one outfit for all-day fun, the Short Sleeve Button-Up Shirt makes a seamless transition from bike to bar stool. Although the tailoring of each piece is slightly form-fitting to optimize on-bike functionality, the overall cut is casual.
The new collection builds on longtime favorites like the Canyon Short and Summit Top and adds fresh pieces like the Versa Barrier Jacket and X-ALP Elevate shoe. For riders seeking a more casual scoot, the X-ALP Launch SPD shoe has a flexible walking sole and traditional laces.
As non-bikey as some items appear, everything in the collection retains Pearlizumi’s use of advanced wicking fabrics, water-resistant materials, and stretch panels where appropriate. The Select Tour jersey has a relaxed fit, but bike-specific features like rear pockets and tailored sleeves.
