Rapido Pro Pump Head glamor

Dissatisfied with clumsy experience of inflating tires, as well as the lack of innovation in the area of pump head design, the development team behind the Rapido Pro pump head developed this new breed of locking interface for your pump. The easy on, easy off design of the Rapido Pro features simple, single-handed actuation of the head clamp mechanism to the tube valve and while ensuring a tight seal around the valve for efficient and secure inflation no matter the valve type. Could this be the future of pump heads? Judge for yourself after the break.

Rapido Pro Pump Head valve

The unique, patent-pending design Rapido Pro head attaches to either Schrader and Presta valves using the same method of actuation, without need of adapter or further consideration, and has been tested to remain clamped in excess of 25 minutes and at pressures greater than 120psi. Constructed of high-impact plastic and stainless steel, the pump is designed to be both durable and reliable.

And for the fashion conscious consumer, the head is available through the Kickstarter campaign in an array of colors.

Cool concept but the guy in the kick starter video mispronounced “rapido” 😉

Very cool, if it works as advertised it is a small revolution!

I don’t care how the guy pronounces Rapido, it’s a brilliant design. It amazes me the creativity of people – how something as simple as a pump head can be redesigned in such an innovative way to make it so easy to use. Im pledging.

I don’t really see why pump heads need to be innovative. Bontrager’s Charger pump head fits both types of valves without swapping anything out internally. Just put it on, lock it, and pump away.

If it could replace the common presta chucks connected to shop compressors it would be a time save, and a hand saver. No more gentle yanking on rear wheels

I’d much rather the valve stem be brought into the 21st century… at the very least make replaceable valve cores for presta universal.

Just ordered 2 . Hopefully it happens.

I went to buy one…but $25 shipping to Canada for one pump head is ridiculous…too bad love the idea.

It seems pretty cool and will be pretty resistant to seal wear. I wish they would put up some cross sections or something on the site though. For now I’ll let everyone else try it out before I hop on.

These will live and die by their quality.

Let me get this straight – you can buy that same pump on Amazon or eBay for $19.99 with free shipping (google Venzo pump), or you can pay these “engineers” $34 for the pump and $25 for the head (the Kickstarter campaign is selling the complete pump for $59).

You have GOT to be kidding me. Wow. That really is an “accomplished team of engineers and product developers”…

Andrew, I googled “Venzo pump” and found a pump with a two-hand operation pump head featuring a lever. Very common design.

This is a one-hand operation pump head where you just squeeze.

Despite how well designed this product is… has anyone actually had issues with their house pump to the point that they say, “damn, I wish someone would invent a better solution!”

@drewdiller – you missed my point entirely.

So, they’re selling a $25 one-handed pump head – i realized that, and that’s just fine. A replacement head for a Specialized Switchhitter pump costs $8 and works on both Presta and Schrader, but takes two hands, so maybe it’s worth $17 more. No problem. BUT… they’re taking a $19 retail pump, removing the head, and putting theirs on it, and charging $59 for it. $59-25=$34. See what just happened there?

Hell, ten people on their kickstarter pledged $69 for the pump, which means they just paid $44 for a pump they can buy on amazon for $19.99. And 165 people as I write this pledged the $59, so they paid 34 smackers for a pump they can get for $19.99.

PT Barnum is still right!

You realize the intent of Kickstarter is not to be a marketplace for goods, right? Some people are willing to pay an extra $20 (or $50, or $100 I guess) in order to help someone with a good idea turn it into a business. Some people view that as a value-add that is worth a few extra bucks. Most programs offer a perceived discount on goods for funders, but it’s not a requirement. If you would rather save your $14.01 than (maybe) help launch a business, you are welcome to do so.

but back on topic…Great idea. I’ve often wondered why air hose quick disconnects are so common but we still fight with two-handed pump heads on bikes. Sure, they work…most of the time. But being able to easily snap this on and off with one hand would be very convenient.

I pledged to get the pump head only and will install it on one of my current pumps in place of the rather unreliable “dual sided” head now on it.

If this thing works as promised, the only pump head that’s as good or better is the Hirame which costs over twice as much and is Presta-only. I have a Hirame and it was money well worth spending so I hope the Rapido is as good.

Doesn’t look like it functions much different from my Birzman pump head…2 seasons …zero issues…

@Mick- I agree it does seem to work exactly like a Birzaman. Though the Rapido would be easier by far on Schrader valves.

I would think IBD’s would like this. Would like to see them make a shop version.

Cool idea but how much finger strength does it take to compress that spring? The plus point of standard lever type heads is that you get leverage and with this you trade off leverage for speed.

I think it looks great. Simple and easy. Usually I love to hate.. but this is cool.

@Padrote

Yep. Silca has been doing this for years, and you don’t have to pray that the Kickstarters gets off the ground.
