Rawland Cycles who we’ve seen put together a couple of new capable and affordable steel bikes for off the beaten track adventuring last summer, are now opening up a new Raidoverks component line. The first products under the new name are the same two simple but versatile front racks seen on their recent Ravn & Ulv off-road touring bikes. With names that give a pretty good indication of their intended use, the adjustable tubular alloy Rando and Demiporteur racks are built tough for off-road touring, but light and adjustable enough that they can work with most of the recent crop of adventure bikes whether on the road, gravel, or trail…

Both gloss black powder coated front racks are big on adjustability, building in multiple threaded bosses to allow you to securely mount accessories like lights, fenders, or anything else you can think of. They also come with two sets of adjustable support stays so you can set the racks up for pretty much any tire and fork leg spacing.

The racks bolt onto the fork crown and then triangulate down to lowrider rack mounts in the middle of the fork leg (or can be clamped to the forks without mid-blade eyelets with a set of P-clamps). The idea being that the mid-leg mount yields a stronger connection and still allows fork legs to flex normally for a better ride feel.

The larger $80 Demiporteur gets a medium-sized 305mm x 194mm  (~12″x 7.5″) platform that will offer stable support to a large traditional handlebar bag or provide plenty of lashing points to secure any other gear you want to strap down up to 10kg (22lb). And at just 425g (15oz) it won’t weigh you down too much.

For something a bit smaller and lighter, the $70 Rando rack gets a narrow 113mm x 202mm (4.5″ x 8″) platform, with the same adjustable features and mounting points. At just 255g (9oz) it is rated to haul the same load, but will just require a bit more care to keep your gear from moving around while riding off-road.

Both racks are available now, directly from Rawland.

Agreed. Such a simple but mandatory placement in my opinion. How people can ride offset or with shadows is beyond me.

Here in the PNW I mount lights off-center, to keep them out of front wheel spray.

I worry that having a light mounted dead center will cause it to be covered in road grime in the rain.

This is why there are three light mounts: front/center and both sides, depending on your preference.

Seems like it would be covered in spray only if you’re riding backward? Otherwise the spray hits the down-tube and your legs, and whatever escapes to the top would hit the bag.
