When the latest Rockshox SID was introduced for model year 2017, they upped the stiffness and performance for their lightweight cross country fork. In the process, they capped the travel at 100mm, leaning on the Reba and Revelation to handle mid-travel trail bikes. Now, they’ve incorporated their new DebonAir system, the latest Charger 2 damper, and added several 120mm travel options.

These internal updates all go into the latest SID chassis. They may look the same, but the changes should make them more plush and give trail bikes a new lightweight weapon…

Updated SID tech

The biggest change is the inclusion of their new DebonAir. The video above provides an overview, and we covered it in detail when it debuted on the new Lyrik, Yari, Pike and Revelation. The gist of it is this: The internals are now smoother with new materials to reduce friction, and the negative chamber is larger thanks to ports that use the inside of the air shaft to create more volume. Hit that link for more info. The result should be better small bump compliance.

All three options also upgrade to the latest Charger 2 damper, but only the RL and RLC offer the 120mm travel…and only in 29er form. There’s no 120mm 27.5″ SID. The World Cup is limited to 100mm because the ultralight carbon crown and steerer assembly was designed specifically for the 80-100mm travel range…of which, there is now only a 100mm option. The other two models use their alloy crown and steerer, which they say is up to the task.

The forks also have their Dig Valve, which was introduced in 2013 as a damping-induced platform and updated for MY2017. Essentially, it restricts compression flow on small, slow hits to keep the fork riding higher in its travel and ready for a bigger, harder hit, at which point it speeds up flow rate to handle the impact.

Both the SID RLC and RL share all the same updates, with the only key difference being the addition of the compression adjustment knob on the lockout. The RLC lets you adjust the range of compression damping, but the RL is simply locked or open.

Are you sure your weights are correct.? You have the same weights listed for the WC/RLC/RL . I find it hard to believe all 3 would weigh the same.

No 100mm thru axle option. That hurts my feelings.

Can we just have a 100mm Pike instead?
