Known for premium bike travel cases, Scicon is hopping into (onto?) the saddle market with a new Elan Carbon ergonomic performance saddle, building on years of industry expertise and an in-house bike fitting division. At the same time, established saddle making veterans Velo are celebrating their 40th anniversary with a special Angel TT saddle, plus smaller junior version & a Prevail TT model. And lastly, unique modular saddle maker Repente has introduced a new Revo collection collaboration, bringing a new look to their interchangeable saddle covers.
Scicon Elan Carbon, all-new ergonomic Power Ergo Design saddle
Building on the professional bike fitting expertise of sister company ASG Bike Science (under the same ASG Group parent company that also recently bought Ellsworth), it isn’t so much of a stretch to see Scicon expand into saddles.
Also adding to their own sports science & biomechanics team, independent cycling saddle consultant Luca Girardi helped Scicon refine their concept of a lightweight and more ergonomic, without performance compromises.
Scicon Elan ergonomic saddle – Design & Tech Details
The heart of the new Elan saddle is what Scicon calls a Power Ergo Design developed to reduce pressure on the body while riding for long periods of time in an aggressive, aero position on the bike, but maintaining comfort while sitting up in a more relaxed position as well. The result is the Elan – a short-nosed, slightly wider saddle with a prominent central cutout that can transition from road to the mountain bike.
The slightly curved top $230 / 200€ Elan saddle uses a carbon-reinforced polymer shell with UD braided carbon rails. Measuring 148mm wide & 248mm long, the one-size-fits-all Elan Carbon tips the scale at a claimed 199g.
To celebrate the launch into the saddle market Scicon are also offering a limited edition Elan Package exclusively through their e-commerce site. For $300 / 250€, you get a numbered saddle, and an Elan branded saddle bag packed out with regular repair supplies.
40th Anniversary edition Velo Angel TT saddle, plus Prevail TT & Jr models
Broadening out their performance line-up, Taiwanese saddle making giant is growing their existing performance Angel & Prevail saddle lines on the occasion of their 40th anniversary.
The new special edition time trial saddle gets a short & wide shape with the same Y-shaped central pressure relief cutout and Velo’s ArcTech rail mounting design that offers stable support while allowing the saddle to gently rock slightly side-to-side as a rider pedals.
The $198 Angel TT saddle features light titanium alloy rails, a reinforced nylon shell, and thin Superlight foam padding. The 143mm wide x 242mm long saddle claims a weight of just 179g.
Using all of the same tech, the Prevail TT saddle is essentially the same design with the ArcTech flexing rails, minus the large central cutout.
But in fact, the Prevail TT actually still shares the same structural Y-shaped pressure relief cutout, only it is hidden under a solid Superlight foam cover. The ti-railed Prevail TT’s top is slightly larger at 146x243mm and weighs a few grams extra at 195g.
Do you think your kids might like the same tech in their own saddles? Both the Angel & Prevail shapes are also now available for young riders as the Little Angel & Little Prevail. No official word on pricing, yet. But the Little saddles feature steel rails with the ArcTech flexing base and standard foam padding. The Little Angel weighs 220g and measures 137x194mm, and the Little Prevail weighs 241g and is 141x200mm.
Repente Revo Collection, limited team edition modular saddles
We got an early first look at Italian saddle maker Repente’s newest, more affordable Prime & Spyd modular saddle designs at Eurobike. But now they are back with a special edition of their original lightweight carbon Aleena & Comptus saddles in a collaboration with the fixed crit Revo Racing Team.
Taking advantage of their unique modular design that allows the saddle tops to be swapped with any of their saddle base frames, you can either buy a complete saddle in their new Revo Collection, or purchase one of the new colorful saddle tops for your existing Repente saddle.
The solid Comptus 4.0 Revo Collection tops sell for 129€, or the pressure relief cutout Aleena 4.0 Revo Collection tops for 139€ a piece. Complete Revo Collection saddles sell for 338€ or 328€ respectively including the lightweight carbon fiber base frame & rails. All Revo options are available in team green, gray, red & yellow, direct from Repente.
