Yes, you read that headline correctly. (No, it is not April again.) Silca has a new bluetooth mini-pump. An update to their already popular and compact Tattico, Silca are claiming it to now be the most accurate pump you’ll ever stick in your pocket. Introduced last fall, the Tattico was already a premium pocket-sized pump in all aluminum, but now it gets its own on-board sensor that communicates to an app on your mobile phone to let you see precisely how much pressure your are putting into your tires. While its necessity on roadside repairs is surely debatable, #crossiscoming (and soon). A very portable way to dial in that perfect pressure in your tubulars trackside, might just be nice to have…

We live in an ever more app-based world, so why not? It’s nice to have a gauge on a mini-pump, but they often add extra weight, bulk, and never seem to be too reliable. So maybe Silca has got the right idea, slipping the little Bluetooth pressure sensor into empty space already there at the end of the Tattico’s barrel.

Silca prides itself on accuracy and durability, so we’re curious to see how this move goes. Rated to 120psi, the new $120 Tattico Bluetooth mini-pump connects via an app called iGauge, promising +/- 2% accuracy readings and measuring down to 1/2psi increments.

The new pump keeps the 6061 aluminum barrel construction, hidden presta/schrader hose design, and its internal hidden heat sink. The Bluetooth transmitter is powered by an easy to replace CR2030 battery, and auto wakes under pressure & hibernates again when pressure is let off and the app shuts down.Silca Tattico Bluetooth wireless mobile app connected compact mini-pump with digital pressure gauge iGauge connecting searchingThe iGauge app itself is available for both iOS & Android. Once you open the app it will start searching for the pump, which wakes when you start pumping. Pump until the desired pressure. Then just shut down the app, disconnect the pump, and it will go back to sleep.

Oh, barf. Seriously?

It’s a cool idea for sure, but for the price I don’t think it’s going to replace giving the tire a squeeze and comparing it to the other tire any time soon. It’s perfect for the ‘more money than sense’ newb crowd though.

Sometimes you get a flat at Dirty Kanzaa and then get a second flat because your pressure was too low and then you overinflated that time around to compensate and spend 10 hours getting bounced around and thinking about a better way.. The riding we are doing has changed, longer, harsher, more tire pressure sensitive and requiring more travel. The development of this one took us 2 years and some significant resources to pull off, but for those who travel and adventure, I’m hopeful you will find this as game changing and anxiety reducing as I do!!

The the effort put into creating a functioning and accurate Bluetooth gauge is impressive and the pump is a beauty. The solution to accurate pressures aren’t really exclusive to having wireless connectivity though, so with that logic this isn’t a unique selling point. A detachable digital readout on the pump could arguably be a simpler solution and not require you to charge your pump so often.

Getting flats are a hassle, so is the effort of inflating with a small pump. I would rank tire pressures off by 0.5psi to be very low in real world usability problems. Your target market is likely experienced enough to overcome the issues you describe, just in feel alone. A pump that addresses actual user needs (perhaps a pump with a hybrid co2 cartridge, or an emergency battery pack when your di2 dies) would ultimately be more desirable.

Picture this! Hybrid pump with CO2 and you choose the pressure you want …and the pump releases enough gas to hit that exactly (or with an offset to account for leakage over the remainder of your ride). If you run out of gas then

I have had 4 Shimano Pro electric air pressure gauges that work well for 6 months +then the battey dies. When replaced it will not function correctly. Just a compact accurate gauge not requiring electronics. Are we becoming so lazy and in need of your phone for all. (deleted)

First reaction: seems like overkill for fixing a flat on the road.
Second reaction: ooooooh, cross…. yeah I’d use that.

Floor pump technology next? I agree for CX use, that would be nice.

Last thing I want to do when fixing a flat is touch my phone screen. For a floor pump – cool. Emergency-get-my-ass-home pump – I think it’s overkill. But, it’s probably an amazing pump regardless – so get the non-bluetooth version.

the point of no return…

If it were accurate to .001 psi it would work on my plus bike…….dang it all….

Technology just for the sake of it and then find a reason or excuse to sell the product. Hmmm!
Good technology fascinates me and a better idea to do something drives that desire. This pump is desirable just for the sake of it combined with the knowledge that the quality and precision is as good as it gets adds to that desire.
I don’t need it but I’ll get one anyway.

I’m thinking it would be GREAT for shock pumps, where pressure accuracy matters a lot and the pump gauges are extremely bulky… Unless you have a Lezyne digital shock pump…

If you like tech run tubeless and sealant and you wont have to prick around pump on the trail side.

In a related announcement, Park Tools now has a bluetooth option for their
iconic thumb & eyeball calibration tool. I use a Park TM-1 to calibrate my thumb
pressure, cheaper and already in the tool box.

Joshua nailed it in his explanation above. If you’re a serious mountain bikes, tire pressure is critical to the ride. This is an excellent solution, as long as the pressure sensor is accurate.

Will sealant clog this fancy pants sensor? Asking as I go through a gauge roughly every other year when they get clogged up w/ Orange seal

This could be nice for mixed surface riding as well, long road ride to gravel, drop the pressure and enjoy, add air for the road ride home.

Lezyne has been making a digital road pump for a few months and it works great. Wellm the 2 times i had to use it. I’m that lazy to not want to take my $600 phone out of my plastic bag case in my jersey. Dang I’m lazy
