Ergon is known for making very ergonomic grips and their latest grip follows that trend – just for a different style of riding. Gravity focused riding, or freeriding requires a high degree of precision as well as a grip that will help you maintain control when things get hairy. To create their next great gravity grip, Ergon teamed up with Tahnée Seagrave and FMD (Follow My Dream) racing to come up with the new GFR1.
According to Ergon, the GFR1 (Grip Free Ride 1) is all about extra damping and precision while maintaining a slim profile. A high degree of damping is provided through ribbing under the palm, while the control is amplified through the lower finger grip zone with tread blocks of varying height.
Note that unlike many Ergon grips, the GFR1 will only come in one size with a 30mm diameter.
There’s also a small inner stop that still allows for shifter access.
Offered in the GFR1 and GFR1 Factory, the standard version uses their GravityControl rubber. The Factory version gets their Factory Custom Rubber which is said to offer better grip and rebound properties while still remaining quite durable.
The GFR1 comes in black with white lettering on the clamp for $34.95, while the Factory version comes in either the Frozen Stealth model, or the FMD Racing Oil Slick version for $39.95.
