PNW has been crushing it lately with new products, and now they’re adding pedals to that list. Carrying a familiar name for the brand, the new Loam pedals include the typical PNW traits—solid design, good looks, and a lifetime warranty without a huge price tag.
Calling it the ‘Goldilocks Zone’ of pedals, the Loam is a forged and then CNC-machined 6061 aluminum platform pedal. The platform is fairly large at 105mm wide and 115mm long, but it also tapers towards the outside of the pedal for additional clearance.
Clad with 22 replaceable pins per pedal, each pin threads in from the underside with an Allen fitting for easy replacement. On the inside, the pedals feature two sealed cartridge bearings and one roller bearing, and the pedals are completely rebuildable with a single hex wrench.
PNW states that the Loam pedals have a slightly concave shape—which is technically true if you take the pin height into consideration. The pedal body itself isn’t really concave at all. In fact, it has a 16.2mm thick center section which thins out to 10.2-11.2mm at the edges. But when you factor in the 20mm thickness of the traction pins, the resulting contact of your shoe to the pedal becomes slightly concave with the sole of the shoe resting on the 16.2mm pedal body (since there aren’t any pins in the middle of the pedal).
On our scale, a single pedal checks in at 223g, or 446g for the pair—just 1g off the claimed weight.
Initially offered in Black Out, Nickelback, and Fruit Snacks, more colors will be introduced in the near future. Currently, Black Out is available and shipping for $99, while Nickelback and Fruit Snacks are coming soon.
