We caught wind of this at SRAM’s press camp earlier this year, and now it’s official: The Truvativ Descendant DH crankset has, um, descended. Here’s SRAM’s bit on it:

Descendant has been flying fast and low, cloaked in a BlackBox disguise for over two seasons. Proven on the world’s most challenging tracks, used by 2009 World Champion Steve Peat, and now it’s ready for you. This downhill-race specific crank uses the same forged AL7050 material as the freeride/DH Holzfeller, but in a second-shaving 822g package (that’s 240g less than the Holzfeller OCT). When your eye is on the podium, there is no room for compromise – that’s why the Descendant comes with the totally revamped GXP bottom bracket with Gutter Seal Technology.
