U.S. Gran Prix organizers have submitted a bid to the UCI to host the 2013 world championship cyclocross races in Louisville, KY.

“We have enthusiastically submitted a bid, and we are waiting to hear the UCI’s final decision in Tabor,” said event director Joan Hanscom.

Hanscom is working with executive director Bruce Fina in conjunction with the Louisville Sports Commission on the deal.

UCI cyclocross coordinator Peter van den Abelee told Het Laatste Nieuws that the city was leading candidate to host the 2013 event, making it the first non-European city to hose the ’cross worlds.

“The UCI did do a site visit, and we are very encouraged by Peter van van den Abelee’s comments to the Belgian press,” Hanscom said.

An announcement regarding the selection will be made at the upcoming cyclocross world championships in the Czech Republic.  Say it with me: U.S.A! U.S.A!
