Dynamic Bicycles claims to have the world’s first drop-bar road bike with an internally geared hub.  Using Shimano’s new Versa shifter/brake levers made to the work with the internal gear Alfine hub, the Dynamic Synergy looks clean with no derailleurs.  This means a single speed up front, but for commuters or beginners or those that just want to keep it simple, it should be fine.
Dynamic says that by using the Alfine 8-speed hub, the bike acheives 95% of the gear range of a compact double and 92% of the range of a full triple.  Like Shimano’s normal road levers, it uses a separate up-shift and down-shift lever on the right hand brake lever.  They can be shifted anytime, even when stopped or just cruising (not pedaling).
