From CHICAGO TRIBUNE: Civic leaders in Dayton, Ohio, are offering the Wright brothers’ first bicycle store as a possible home to the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame.

The city is one of 11 under consideration for the hall, which was founded in 1987 is currently housed in Somerville, N.J.

Bill Brunner, the hall’s search committee chairman, says the organization is looking for a community that can provide support, draw in visitors and is bicycle friendly.

Wilber and Orville Wright were bicycle builders by trade who made the first airplane flight at Kitty Hawk, N.C., in 1903. Their bicycle shop in Dayton is in disrepair, and local advocates see the bicycle hall of fame as a way to save the building.

Brunner says other cities being considered are Madison, Wis., and Davis, Calif.
