With winter knocking at the door, for Bontrager that means it’s time to add some new mythical creatures to the stable. We’re talking about fat bike tires, of course. After starting their collection with the Hodag and later the Barbegazi, Bontrager has two new fat bike tires that may just offer the grip that their fantastic names would imply…
Ok, technically the Narwhal is a real thing, even though they’re wild enough to be the creature of an active imagination. In this case, the Bontrager Gnarwhal is the name chosen for their first studded/studdable tire. Fitted with 160 tungsten carbide Gnarwhal spikes, the tire uses a TLR tubeless ready casing with Bontrager’s Inner Strength sidewall protection. Offered only in 26×3.8″ at the moment, studdable tires (no studs included) sell for $119.99 a piece while the studded version jumps to $224.99 a piece.
The Rougarou enters as an interesting tire meant for firm snow or sand conditions or as a fat bike race tire. Using smaller profile knobs in the center with larger cornering knobs, the Rougarou is called the “fastest fat bike tire” to date which fits well with the race tire angle. Initially to be offered in 26×3.8″ with a TLR inner Strength casing, Rougarous will sell for $119.99.
